đź‘«Community Engagement in Clinical Trials

Hi Reader

If you’re a new subscriber, welcome! My name is Kunal Sampat, and I host the Clinical Trial Podcast. I also write blog posts on clinical research and am committed to sharing everything I know about clinical trials with you.

If you’ve been on my email list for a while, thank you for your patience. My email updates have been less frequent than I’d like, but I’m excited to be back with regular content.

In this episode, I’m excited to share an interview with Chris Komelasky on Community Engagement in clinical trials.

Important Context: When this interview was recorded, the FDA had published draft guidance on diversity in clinical trials. However, this guidance has since been withdrawn and final guidance was never published. Despite this, sponsors commonly collect age, ethnicity, and race data in clinical trials, as diverse participant populations increase our confidence in clinical trial results.

Community engagement plays a key role in enrolling diverse participant pools, which is why I invited Chris to discuss this critical topic.

About Chris Komelasky:

Current Role: CEO and Co-founder of SiteBridge Research

About SiteBridge Research: An Integrated Research Organization (IRO) that helps connect physicians and their patients to clinical trials while reducing barriers for sites and participants.

Professional Background: - Leadership roles at PPD - Experience at GlaxoSmithKline - Consulting experience at Accenture and ZS Associates

Education: - B.S. in Systems Engineering, University of Virginia - MBA, Duke University

Personal: Resides in Chapel Hill, NC with his wife and three children

Episode Focus:

We’ll explore: - What community engagement means in clinical trials - Recent regulations and guidance documents - Practical strategies for enrolling diverse participant populations - How to reduce barriers for both sites and participants

Please join me in welcoming Chris to the Clinical Trial Podcast.

Resources for You

I bet you've tried to create good habits and/or break bad habits. One awesome book on habit forming is Atomic Habits by James Clear. Personally, I'm trying to stop biting my nails. I'm making progress but not ready to announce I've ditched this habit for good. If you're trying to cultivate new habit or break an old one, I highly recommend this book. James Clear also has an epic email newsletter that you can sign-up for free!

"Conventional wisdom holds that motivation is the key to habit change. Maybe if you really wanted it, you’d actually do it. But the truth is, our real motivation is to be lazy and to do what is convenient. And despite what the latest productivity best seller will tell you, this is a smart strategy, not a dumb one."
