Diabetes Clinical Trials with Dr. Stayce Beck

Hi Reader

Have you ever thought about which areas of clinical research have the biggest potential to change lives?

If you’re looking to make a real, lasting impact, here are four that top the list:

  • Atherosclerotic disease
  • Cancer
  • Neurodegenerative disease
  • Metabolic dysfunction

In this week’s episode, we’re diving into that last one — metabolic dysfunction — with a special focus on diabetes research.

My guest is Dr. Stayce Beck, Global Vice President of Clinical Affairs at Dexcom, the company behind the continuous glucose monitors that are transforming how people manage diabetes around the world.

Dr. Beck has such an impressive and inspiring background. Before joining Dexcom, she spent more than a decade at the FDA, where she served as:

  • A scientific reviewer
  • Chief of the Diabetes Diagnostic Devices Branch
  • Deputy Office Director of Personalized Medicine and Molecular Genetics

She’s got the credentials to match, too:

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Science (UC San Diego)
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering (UT Austin)
  • M.P.H. in Epidemiology (University of Maryland Baltimore)

What I love about Dr. Beck is how grounded and passionate she is about improving patients’ lives. Outside of work, she’s a mom who loves reading, hiking, and running — just a genuinely inspiring person all around.

This conversation is full of insights about how innovation in clinical trials is shaping the future of diabetes care — and what that means for all of us working in clinical research.

🎧 Tune in now to hear my conversation with Dr. Stayce Beck.

I promise, you’ll walk away motivated and full of new ideas.

Love,

Kunal

My Past Week(s)

  • I took the ACRP-MDP® (ACRP Medical Device Professional) certification exam on September 4th and passed the test! Most of my exam prep involved reading dense documents like the ISO 14155:2020 Clinical investigation of medical devices for human subjects — Good clinical practice. A complete blog post to follow!
  • Earlier this week I was at Research Revolution 2025 in Atlanta. It was a blast to moderate a panel on "Building Shared Understanding: Best Practices for Clinical Trial Budgeting." I was lucky to record it as a live podcast - which I look forward to sharing with you soon! Thanks Florence Healthcare for this opportunity.
  • After a few years of deliberation, I got myself an Oura ring. Aside from the health benefits, I am amazed by human creativity and ingenuity that went into creating such a wellness product
  • I started to focus on using AI more and am actively working on incorporating AI in my workflow. For example, I used Wispr Flow to "type" 74,238 words in the last 14 weeks! Sign-up using my referral link to get 1-month free
